    Kronborg Castle, Copenhagen

Kronborg Castle is one of northern Europe’s most important Renaissance castles. Known all over the world from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, it is also the most famous castle in Denmark. Kronborg Castle is located less than 1 hours drive from Copenhagen International Airport in Elsinore, at the seaward approach to The Sound Oresund.

Frederik II’s Kronborg is both an elegant Renaissance castle and a monumental military fortress surrounded by major fortifications with bastions and ravelins.

Some of the historical rooms house collections of Renaissance and Baroque interiors, and among the most important attractions are the 62-metree long ballroom, the wonderfully preserved chapel and the statue of ‘Holder the Dane’.

During the period 1998-2010, Kronborg Castle is undergoing extensive development to turn it into a modern exhibition centre and visitor attraction. The restoration of the buildings and fortress areas go hand-in-hand with the development of the historical presentation of the castle to the public.

Kronborg offers four interconnected meeting rooms on the ground floor beneath the castle’s ball room and the four rooms have a combined capacity for 220 guests. The rooms are decorated with Danish design furniture, and Kronborg offers flexible seating arrangements, wireless technology as well as stage and lounge

Axel Gyldenstjerne’s Chamber (60 people) is located right next to the castle’s church. In 1599 this room belonged to Axel ‘Golden Star’ who was head of Government and tutor for the boy who was later to become King Christian the 4th. The Apothecary (60 people) was originally used for storage of herbs and spices. The lounge (40 people) is a recreation/break room with work space for the conference hosts and seating for approximately 20 people. In The Queen’s Laundry Room (60 people), laundry was done once a year –with spot cleaning of clothes in between laundry days.

    World Heritage List
Kronborg Castle was added to the World Heritage List year 2000, by the UN organisation UNESCO, and is now a member of the world's cultural legacy.
